Modelling site response at regional scale for the 2020 European Seismic Risk Model (ESRM20)

Abstract Quantitative estimation of seismic risk over a region requires both an underlying probabilistic hazard model and means to characterise shallow site response large scale. The 2020 European Seismic Risk Model (ESRM20) builds on the Hazard (ESHM20), requiring additional information firstly parameterise local condition across all Europe, subsequently determine its influence prediction ground motion. Initially, harmonised digital geological database for Europe is compiled, alongside topographic/bathymetric elevation 30 m averaged shearwave velocity measurements ( $$V_{S30}$$ V S 30 ), in order produce separate arc-second maps inferred based topography geology. We then capitalise recording stations which site-to-site motion residuals $$\delta S2S_{S}$$ ? 2 ) have been determined with respect crustal used ESHM20. These allow us incorporate amplification functions into GMM calibrated upon either observed or , geology models. present resulting pan-European assess impact compared against other approaches. new fulfils requirements ESRM20 and, providing uncertainty fully propagated, yields estimates at space scale that may be comparable methods often applied local/urban where better-constrained available.
